Butter Bars

1 lb. butter

1 cup sugar

pinch of salt

seeds scraped from 1 vanilla bean pod

1 tsp. vanilla

4 cups flour

Cream butter and sugar, then add salt and vanilla extract and seeds. Work in the flour. The batter will be stiff. Pat into 9Γ—13 pan lined with parchment paper.

Bake at 325 degrees for 30-40 minutes. Serve as is or frost.

Frosting

1/3 cup butter, softened

3 cups powdered sugar

1 1/2 tsp vanilla

3 tablespoon milk

Combine all ingredients. Beat until smooth and fluffy. Tint with desired food coloring. Add more milk if needed.
